Dr.Dee brief rehearsal video / ‘Apple Carts’ briefly heard on Making Of Plastic Beach

First off there’s a new brief rehearsal video of Dr.Dee on Youtube, uploaded by Manchester International Festival. You can hear part of what appears to be an alternate version of Apple Carts. Check it out here.

On the subject of Apple Carts, eagle-eyed fans HeroRobot and Thedoctor7176 have spotted that part of it is clearly heard in the Making Of Plastic Beach documentary which came with the deluxe CD+DVD edition of Plastic Beach. It appears that Mos Def sings back to Damon a part of it he has just been played. You can check it out on Youtube here, at 2:26 in the video. Many fans have previously pointed out that ‘Apple Carts’ is also listed as a song that (at least partly) appears in the Making Of, in the credits in the DVD booklet. There, it is stated that sinfonia ViVA appears on the track, which is listed as a demo. (Could the orchestral part from 5:03 onwards in this video clip of the Making Of Plastic Beach be an orchestral part of the song?).

It’s not the first time one of Damon’s songs has migrated from one project to another. As we covered in a previous news item here, On Melancholy Hill was at least tried out in some form by the The Good, The Bad & The Queen band.
