19/2000

This track was plucked from the debut album to become the second Gorillaz single release, possibly on the strength of the Soulchild Remix of the song. In its original form it is more lethargic and not exactly a dancefloor filler, but is still eminently listenable with its catchy ‘Get the cool sunshine’ refrain. The lyrics, whilst not exactly lucid, stand out amongst those on the debut LP as some of the best. It has been speculated that the title derives from the fact that the song might make reference to the turn of the millenium, and the whole pre and post millenial tension thing in its first few lines. Also it could be that Damon is referring to his decision to start the Gorillaz project after feeling creatively hemmed in, in the second group of four lines.
